Who Would Al Gore Pick For Vice President?

There would be several people who would be valuable assets to any ticket. Who should we start with? What are the metrics we would use to evaluate a potential V-P under a President Al Gore? There are a couple of ways of looking at the situation. But first, understand that the Vice President only gives a Presidential ticket one or two points in the polls. I think that it can also be a negative, like the case of Dan Quale. He hurt Bush.

No one better critizcize Gore if they want to be considered for VP and help the eventual ticket win.

Who should be Gore's running mate?

Al Gore Video

The speech yesterday in Washington by Al Gore has gotten lots of attention. I am going to cover some of media quotes later tonight or tomorrow.

But for now I want to share with you a video I found. I took video myself of Al Gore’s speech and wanted to post it on this blog. And while I was doing that I found this. It is great! It is an inside view of Al Gore with his family. Take a look at it. It is very positive on Gore.

Al Gore Gives Outstanding Address - "Restoring the Rule of Law"

I was at DAR Constitution Hall today to hear Al Gore speak. He was really terrific! The crowd was very impressed and afterwards I heard people saying how great Gore had done. I'll be interested in knowing how many people attended. There was a large crowd and I would guess about 3,000 attended.

People were really ready to respond to the former V-P's message. In fact, Gore was calm and organizied in delivering the speech. Al Gore's speech was world class. It was very thoughtful and well researched. He gave lots of facts and examples on what he was talking about. People really loved it.

Gore's last line was maybe the best, "As Dr. King once said, 'Perhaps a new spirit is rising among us. If it is, let us trace its movements and pray that our own inner being may be sensitive to its guidance, for we are deeply in need of a new way beyond the darkness that seems so close around us'."

Lots of Interest in Al Gore's Speech Monday in Washington, DC

Since the anouncement that Al Gore is planning on making a major address here in the Nation's Capitol, I have noticed a lot of buzz on the subject. The e-mail traffic is huge, and of course, the blogs are all talking about Gore. The major media outlets have not yet discussed this, and I think that's just fine. The message is going around them in any case, so they are not able to control the message, or define Al Gore and his speech the way they would like to control it. With CSPAN 1 showing this on Monday FOX will be a little hesitant
in how they spin the event.

I am beginning to see Editorial Boards discuss the appearance. These folks are people concerned with the direction America is headed. For example, here's one editorial which I was interested. My sense is we will see more and more feedback from forums of discussion as we go future adrift.

Gore to deliver scathing speech Monday on 'constitutional crisis' in Washington

Interesting details are coming out about the speech Al Gore will deliver this coming Monday in Washington, DC. Watch the repbulicans get all bent out of shape because of this speech! They know Gore would win an election for President because he's experienced in Government and has been in the military.

Al Gore speaks at Constitution Hall on Monday

And, You Are Invited! January 16, 2006

Subject: You're invited. Al Gore speaks at Constitution Hall in Washington DC on Monday.
You're invited to an important speech by former Vice President Al Gore at Constitution Hall in Washington DC this coming Monday at noon. Get Tickets
Dear MoveOn member,
Al Gore is giving an important speech on Monday in D.C. and you're invited. Bob Barr is introducing him (yes, that Bob Barr—the former Clinton impeachment manager). What brought this odd couple together?
On December 17, the president admitted to authorizing a broad program of repeated NSA wiretapping of American citizens, without warrants, in defiance of safeguards mandated by Congress.1 This assertion of executive power threatens to place unchecked power in the president, ignoring our constitutional system and threatening our most basic civil liberties.
We believe, like many across the political spectrum, that if America doesn't respond, our constitutional system may be damaged beyond repair. In response, we've joined a broad coalition of progressive and conservative organizations, called the Liberty Coalition, that are committed to defending the core principles of American democracy.
The Liberty Coalition and the American Constitution Society are cosponsoring a speech this coming Monday by former Vice President Gore at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington DC about the dangers of unchecked executive power and why it's important for Americans to respond. As part of the Liberty Coalition, MoveOn members are invited.
Can you join us? Just go to:

Once you RSVP all you have to do is confirm your email address and you will get a link to print your ticket. Please note that you will have one ticket that will list the names of your guests, not separate tickets for everyone. Please be sure that you and your guests bring a valid driver's license or passport.
This speech is going to take place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day where we honor a true American hero for justice and peace. Dr. King himself was a victim of secret government surveillance. This is an important time for us to reflect on the civil rights and liberties that are core to our identity as Americans.
We hope you will be able to join us.
Thanks for all you do,

Howard Dean on CNN Today

"Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer" was broadcasting live from Israel today. Blitzer had Howard Dean on the program and they discussed what’s happening politically here in the United States. Dean definitely got the better of Blitzer. Blitzer wanted to pin Dean down that the Democrats were somehow involved with this Abramoff lobby scandal. Dean was very well primed for this line of questioning and was able to make the republicans look really really bad about the entire issue. They have become the party of corruption and they were not able to shake that label with Blitzer. Dean knew how to respond because the Dean Party Organization has done its homework and demonstrated that not one penny has gone to the Dems from republican Jack Abramoff. This is a Republican Party scandal - 100%.

There is one thing I would like to see all dems say when they are on TV or in front of a group. Dems need to reiterate that the GOP controls everything in Washington, DC. They govern the House and Senate, the Executive branch of Government, plus they control the courts. So, if the American people don’t like the direction of the country they know whom to blame! It is the GOP that’s in control and has messed things up!!

Al Gore Gives Briefing on Environment to the ATR

This last Wednesday Al Gore came and gave a briefing to a very conservative group lead by Grover Norquist. I feel this is a very positive development. Gore is reaching out to various groups about an extremely important subject, the environment.

As far as I can make out, it looks like the Hotline was the first to announce that Gore had been in town and was speaking to this group. Gore was well received. I have attached the links for you to check out. See below.

Cheers!

WHITE HOUSE '08: Gore More Years!

Last a.m., ex-VP Gore attended ATR pres. Grover Norquist's famed Wed. morning weekly meeting to talk about the environment. As Hotline On Call reported, Gore approached ATR about doing so after talking with Dem donor/financier George Soros, who made a similar visit in '05. Norquist appraised Gore's appearance thusly: "Lots of fun." The Corner's John Miller: "For a moment, let's set aside the content of his speech on global warming. ... Aren't you just a little bit impressed that Gore would try to talk to conservatives at the Wednesday meeting? I am. It shows guts, courage of convictions, and an optimism about how calm discussion among reasonable people can achieve good results." Indeed, several of his fellow Cornerites were, including Steven Hayward and Jonah Goldberg, who noted, it's "worth remembering that Gore was essentially the Joe Lieberman of the Democrats in 1988." It may be the most positive coverage NRO has given Gore, ever.
At The Reality-Based Community, Jonathan Zasloff notes that John Kerry claims "that he is in great shape to run in '08 because he boasts an e-mail list of more than 3 million. Obviously, those 3 million weren't fans of Kerry per se -- they just wanted to get rid of the Dear Leader. Kerry wasn't an awful candidate, but he certainly wasn't a great one. He's had his chance. Fortunately enough, there's an easy way for all of us in the netroots to fix this problem: unsubscribe from Kerry's list. It's easy, it helps to clean out your inbox, and it will send a very powerful message to Massachusetts' junior Senator that he should make other plans for 2008."
